Carle Health in Chicago, IL, seeks an RN First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons during operations and contribute to perioperative care.

You will collaborate with the OR team to prep equipment, assist with procedures, monitor vitals, and educate patients and families about aftercare. This role emphasizes independent nursing actions in the perioperative setting and may include scrub and circulating duties as needed, plus opportunities for research involvement.

Qualifications

RN license in Illinois (IDFPR).
CNOR certification preferred.
BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
Completion of an accredited RNFA program.

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries; ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
Provide patient care and support.
Administer medications.
Perform surgical tasks such as bleeding control, suturing, draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
Position and prepare the patient on the operating table.
Monitor vitals and heart rate during procedures.
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare; report patient status to family.
Perform post-operative assessments; monitor pain and complications.
Review patient history and health assessments.
Monitor surgical site healing or infection.
Participate in research activities.
Scrub and circulate as needed by unit.
Prepare supplies and assist in organizing equipment; manage charges.
Assist in room turnover.
