This nonexempt, full-time position emphasizes accurate medical record keeping, EMR entries, and coordination between patients, staff, and the surgery center to ensure a smooth, patient-focused experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years of experience in a medical setting, preferably with surgery scheduling or administrative tasks.
• Equivalent education or degree may substitute for experience.
• Excellent time management and organization.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical record and seeks direction from surgeon to understand patient needs and treatment.
• Screens patient records to ensure all information is included.
• Educates patients on upcoming procedures, including scheduling, consents, paperwork, and instructions.
• Counsels patients on elective options provided by the physician.
• Coordinates with surgeons, optometrists, and staff for pre- and post-surgical care.
• Communicates with surgery center staff to relay demographics and procedure details.
• Processes insurance authorizations and medical clearance when needed.
• Ensures complete and accurate medical records and EMR entries for surgeries.
• Performs final checks of patient records prior to surgery.
• Prescribes post-operative eye drops as directed.
• Answers calls and returns voicemails promptly.
• Verifies coding and modifiers for procedures; enters codes in EMR.
• Participates in department meetings and maintains proficiency in practice software.
