Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate preferred; Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of two years in a medical front office setting with health insurance/benefit knowledge; two additional years with referrals/consult processes in ambulatory care.

Responsibilities

• May provide cost estimates for outpatient and inpatient care.
• Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance.
• Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements.
• Update patient accounts and balances.
• Review and process patient and insurance company forms.
• Communicate with patients, insurance companies, Ambulatory Surgery Center Scheduler, and OR Scheduler on the phone.
• Coordinate with surgeons and care teams for scheduling surgeries in the Ambulatory Surgery Center & OR.
• Inform supervisors of any patient billing concerns.
• Address patient billing questions and collaborate to correct errors with ambulatory accounting or insurance.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure continuity of care.
• Assist PSRs with workload and provide support as needed.
• Schedule referrals for orthopedic providers in clinic.
• Demonstrate teamwork and maintain communication with internal and external customers.
• Contribute to special projects or committees as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
