Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Approximately 2 years of medical clerical experience; hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Knowledge of payor contract terms and processes is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication and teamwork skills; able to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software; ability to use computerized scheduling systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates case times for elective, urgent or emergent surgeries in a computerized scheduling system.
• Acquires and verifies authorization numbers, medical records and relevant tests as needed.
• Types and prints physician orders for multiple physicians and departments.
• Schedules and maintains physician block time and releases.
• Enters orders for labs, imaging and cardiology; records patient charges.
• Compiles data and prepares statistical reports for management.
• Performs charge management audits and reconciles discrepancies.
• Acts as receptionist and liaison among staff, physicians, patients and families.
