Job summary

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada, Inc. is seeking dedicated Support Staff for the Veteran Grant Per Diem program at the Mather Community Campus. You will ensure quality service in a safe, non-judgmental environment while assisting residents and collaborating with program staff.

The role emphasizes teamwork, crisis de-escalation, and adherence to policy, with a focus on compassionate client support and structured daily operations.

Qualifications

• This position requires ability to communicate and comprehend instructions and provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices.
• It requires knowledge of issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, youth and persons with disabilities.
• It requires flexibility to work irregular hours and to function as a team member.
• Basic computer skills are required and CPR/First Aid training within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Explain program rules and facilitate residents’ observance of rules.
• Coordinate meal prep/service, bed assignments, showers, laundering, and daily routines.
• Provide awake shift coverage and maintain grounds security; conduct hourly safety checks.
• De-escalate crises and provide emergency assistance as needed.
• Maintain daily reports and perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks as required.
• Respond to client questions and perform clerical duties on shift.
