Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites current students to join our Oakland office for a Summer 2027 Internship in Structural Engineering. You will work alongside leading engineers in the office and on-site to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.

You will assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, testing, and drafting, gaining experience in materials, analysis, and problem solving, with travel and heights possible.

Qualifications

• Student pursuing civil or structural engineering with strong grades.
• Good academic standing and willingness to learn through hands-on work.
• Enthusiasm for solving engineering challenges with professionalism.
• Strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, construction observations and project drafting.
• Analyze materials, develop test protocols, design testing apparatus, perform tests and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on field reconnaissance, tests, and monitoring of construction.
• Organize field data and assist with research to support analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed professionals using hand calculations and software.
