Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) seeks motivated students for a 2027 Internship and/or Co-op in our Oakland office. You will work alongside industry experts on field investigations, drawings, and analytical tasks to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects.

As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in construction monitoring, testing, and reporting while developing your engineering judgment. Travel and heights may be required; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong communication abilities.
• Interest in civil/structural engineering.
• Maintain high grades in studies and pursue hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site observations.
• Analyze materials, support petrography, develop test protocols, design and test data analysis.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on reconnaissance of structures and field testing.
• Organize field data and assist research to aid analysis and repair design.
• Perform hand calculations and software-based analyses under guidance from licensed professionals.
• Help prepare client deliverables: construction documents, specifications, and reports.
• Travel and working from heights may be required.
