Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites students to a 2027 Summer internship in our Los Angeles, CA office. You will work closely with industry-leading engineers to gain hands-on experience applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.

You’ll assist with construction monitoring, condition assessments, and design tasks, while developing skills in testing, drafting, and client deliverables under supervision. Travel and heights may be involved.

Qualifications

• Interest in civil and structural engineering, materials science, architecture.
• Maintain high grades and eagerness to learn through hands-on work.
• Strong communication abilities and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, develop test protocols, and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on recon, field tests, or monitoring of construction.
• Organize field data and assist with research to aid analysis and repair design.
• Assist with client deliverables including construction documents and reports.
• Work may involve travel and working from heights.
