Summer Intern: Steel Construction & Field Operations

Job summary

NexGen Contracting is seeking two interns for its Steel Department for Summer 2027. Locations are TBD and travel may be required.

Interns will support safety, estimating, scheduling, procurement, and project coordination across office and field environments, gaining hands-on experience in industrial construction under supervision. Strong organization and teamwork are essential; reliable transportation is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completing related degree in construction
• Strong organizational and communication abilities
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Willingness to travel as required
• Comfortable working in office and job site environments

Responsibilities

• Observe and assist with safety efforts, including safety documentation and meetings
• Support review of job cost information and distribute project estimates
• Assist with quantity takeoffs and preparation of estimates, budgets, and proposals
• Contribute to project scheduling and timeline updates
• Help monitor progress with data collection and basic production Reporting
• Assist with cost tracking and admin tasks, such as compiling reports
• Support procurement activities: track materials, orders, and inventory
• Learn to assist with change order processes and documentation
• Coordinate communication with general contractors and owners under supervision
• Prepare field reports tracking labor hours, productivity, and material usage
• Follow company policies, procedures and industry standards for quality
• Must have reliable transportation
