Job summary

WSP USA is offering a full-time Structural Engineering (Substation) Intern position in the Freeport, ME office, with consideration for nearby locations like Hallowell, ME and others. This 12-week summer internship begins May 17, 2027, as part of the WSP Summer Internship Program.

You will work with senior staff and gain hands-on design exposure. The role emphasizes learning fundamentals of structural engineering, project research, field work, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older and authorized to work in the United States.
• Demonstrated interest in Structural Engineering and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Structural Engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
