Job summary

WSP USA is offering a Full-Time Structural Engineering (Substation) Intern position in Freeport, ME, with additional locations including Hallowell, ME; Syracuse, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and New York, NY. This 12-week summer internship starts May 17, 2027, and is open to undergraduates and graduates.

You will assist with research, preliminary design, and documentation, gaining exposure to power delivery and project management under senior staff mentorship.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Structural Engineering program with an anticipated graduation date August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Structural Engineering and desire to learn WSP’s projects.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Structural Engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
