Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a paid internship with the Substation Field Engineering Organization in Colorado. The program provides practical, hands-on training and allows you to apply classroom knowledge while supporting engineering operations.

You will learn to perform AC/DC calculations, assist with design and maintenance, and gain exposure to CAD tools (MicroStation, ProjectWise) while coordinating with Field Engineers during a structured summer program.

Qualifications

• Current student, Freshman and above
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in design, automation, electronics, engineering, or related field
• Able to commute to the Lipan Distribution service center
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the spring (up to 20 hours/week)

Responsibilities

• Perform AC and DC auxiliary system calculations
• Assist with substation engineering design and maintenance tasks
• Support Field Engineers with inspections and projects
• Learn to use various CAD systems (MicroStation and ProjectWise)
• Assist with processes and document updates
