Xcel Energy Inc. is offering a Substation Field Engineering Intern position for a May 24, 2027 start.

The role blends office engineering work with field exposure on substation equipment and projects, with opportunities to learn and grow within a leading energy company. The internship requires current students at ABET-accredited programs in electrical engineering disciplines, who can work up to 40 hours weekly in summer and up to 20 hours in the school year, with a hybrid in-person work

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or related field.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week).
• Hybrid work policy requiring commuting to the designated work location in-person.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Support development of construction work packages and scope of work documents.
• Help track project schedules, budgets, and material deliveries.
