Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a summer internship designed to expose you to the practical side of electrical engineering within a leading utility. You will work under supervision, learning how RTUs are programmed with DNP, and gain hands-on experience in configuring network settings for substations and cyber assets.

Qualifications

• Current student, Freshman or higher.
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with configuration, testing and troubleshooting of communication equipment in utility substations and power networks.
• Support maintenance and monitoring of telecommunications infrastructure.
• Use engineering software (Power System Center) to configure, analyze and verify protective relay and communication settings.
• Analyze network performance data and generate reports to improve system reliability and support projects.
• Create and update technical documentation including network diagrams and operating procedures.
