Job summary

Xcel Energy invites motivated students to join the Southwestern Public Service Area Engineering Intern program, where you’ll support reliability, safety and operation of the electric distribution system.

You’ll work with experienced engineers on power system studies, field visits to substations, outage analysis and capital projects, gaining hands-on experience with utility software and real-world challenges. Position starts May 24, 2027, with a hybrid work policy requiring in-person commuting.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited college or university; pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support electric distribution reliability and outage investigations, including CEMI/DEMI analysis.
• Assist with protection and coordination studies for distribution feeders and equipment.
• Support capital project development and distribution system improvement initiatives.
• Participate in field visits to substations, distribution facilities, and construction projects.
• Utilize utility engineering software and databases to evaluate system performance and operating conditions.
• Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to solve real-world electric utility challenges.
