Job summary

Xcel Energy invites qualified students to join as a Substation Field Engineering Intern in Maple Grove, MN, for a May 24, 2027 start. This role blends office engineering with hands-on field exposure to substation equipment, giving you real-world experience on maintenance, construction, and system troubleshooting.

As an intern you’ll review drawings, help develop work packages, and track schedules and budgets while collaborating with a safety‑driven team.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in an ABET-accredited program pursuing a degree related to electrical engineering or power systems.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours).
• Willingness to support field crews and collaborate in office and field settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Support development of construction work packages and scope of work documents.
• Help track project schedules, budgets, and material deliveries.
• Engage in emergency and fast-tracked substation equipment replacement projects.
