Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) seeks a Design Engineer - Substation to perform design assignments including yard layouts, grounding, protection, and control systems. You will develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs, while ensuring NEC/NESC/IEEE compliance and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires a bachelor’s in ABET-accredited engineering, plus strong communication skills; FE exam is highly desirable for higher bands. Travel up to 25% is expected.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• FE exam highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity about substation components; prior design/construction exp desirable.
• No entry-level electric utility exp required; more exp may advance band.
• Word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail software proficiency.
• Excellent oral and written communication; ability to work in a team.
• Able to manage multiple tasks and handle ambiguity independently.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, and protection.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and bills of materials for planning and construction.
• Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, flicker, and grounding analyses.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams on solutions and modifications.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and calculations; report findings.
• Travel up to 25% of the time for project needs.
