Job summary

Quanta Services’ QISG is seeking a Design Engineer I to perform substation design assignments, including yard layouts, grounding, and protection & control systems, ensuring safety and construction standards. You will prepare design documents and collaborate with engineers and field personnel across projects.

You’ll report to a Supervising Engineer as part of a substation design team; four bands exist as you gain experience. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable.
• Curiosity for and willingness to learn about substation components; basic knowledge is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication; teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts and grounding.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations and bills of material from engineering documents.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling and grounding analysis.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
