Job summary

Quanta Services is seeking a Design Engineer - Substation to perform substation design assignments, including physical layout, protection & control systems, and ensuring safety code compliance. You will work with a team of engineers, designers, and drafters across the QISG platform.

Responsibilities include developing schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, conducting voltage drop and grounding analyses, and producing design drawings.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.
• FE exam passing is highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn substation components; basic knowledge is a plus.
• No experience required for entry level; more for higher bands.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings and power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Create design drawings, calculations and bills of material for planning, construction and maintenance.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker and grounding analyses.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and propose improvements; work with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Identify and communicate project-related challenges and solutions to stakeholders.
• Travel out of town up to 10-25% as required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering (ABET-accredited)
