Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group is seeking a Design Engineer - Substation to perform design assignments for substation components, protection and control systems, and related engineering tasks. This role collaborates with a team of engineers, designers and drafters on projects across the QISG platform, reporting to a Supervising Engineer.

Ideal candidates will hold an ABET-accredited engineering degree, and FE exam qualification is a plus for higher bands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing FE exam is highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity about major substation components and willingness to learn; prior design/construction experience is a plus.
• No experience in electric utilities required for entry level; more experience may lead to higher band.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, and AC/DC power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and BOMs from engineering documents for planning, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Conduct engineering calculations including voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and grounding analysis.
• Ensure project team applies NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
