Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group is hiring a Design Engineer - Substation to perform substation design tasks, including layout, protection, and control systems, while ensuring safety and construction standards compliance. This role reports to a Supervising Engineer and supports a team across the QISG platform.

The position requires a ABET-accredited engineering degree, FE exam desirability, and strong communication with the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
• Passing the FE exam is highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity for substation components and willingness to learn are required.
• Entry level positions have no experience in electric utility industry required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently are essential.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts, grounding, protection, control buildings and power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Produce design drawings, calculations and bills of material from engineering documents.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker and grounding analyses.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and collaborate with engineers and field personnel to ensure accuracy.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and engineering calculations.
• Travel for project assignments up to 10–25% of the time.
