Job summary

Quanta Services is seeking a Design Engineer – Substation to join its substation design team. You will design physical substation components, develop protection and control schemes, and prepare drawings and calculations for projects across the QISG platform.

You will report to a Supervising Engineer and collaborate with engineers, designers and field personnel to ensure accuracy and efficiency. A bachelor’s in engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required or desirable FE certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable; required for the Design Engineer 4 band.
• Willingness to learn major substation components; previous design/construction experience is a plus.
• No experience required for entry level positions; more experience could lead to a higher band.
• Role requires travel up to 10–25% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Design substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, and protection & control systems.
• Develop protection schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and material bills from engineering documents.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop and grounding analysis.
• Collaborate with engineers and field personnel to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.
