Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group, LLC seeks a Design Engineer - Substation to perform substation design tasks, including physical layouts and protection & control systems, while ensuring safety and construction standards. You will design components, select materials, prepare design documents, and collaborate with engineers and field personnel on projects across the QISG platform.

The role reports to a Supervising Engineer and is part of a substation design team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity for substation components; basic knowledge is a plus; previous design or construction experience desirable.
• No experience in the electric utility industry required for entry level; more experience could lead to higher band.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a complex environment.

Responsibilities

• Design substation components, yard layouts, grounding, protection & control systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and BOM from engineering documents.
• Conduct engineering calculations (voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker, grounding).
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI.
• Perform quality reviews and provide recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support calculations.
• Flag project-related problems to stakeholders and propose solutions.
• Travel out of town as required (up to 10–25%).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
