Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group, LLC seeks a Design Engineer - Substation to perform substation design, grounding, protection, and control system work. You will develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs for planning, construction, and operation.

The role requires an ABET‑accredited engineering degree, strong communication, and the ability to travel up to 25% for project support. Entry-level candidates are welcome; FE is desirable for higher bands.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
• Passing the FE exam is highly desirable; required for Design Engineer 4.
• Curiosity about substation components; basic knowledge is a plus; prior design/construction experience is desirable.
• No electric utility industry experience required for entry level; more experience could lead to a higher level.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
• Excellent oral and written communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, protection, and power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and bills of material for planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.
• Perform engineering calculations, such as voltage drop, wiring, flicker, and grounding analyses.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Travel for projects as required, up to 10–25% of the time.
