Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group is seeking a Design Engineer – Substation to perform substation design tasks, including physical layout, grounding, and protection systems. You will prepare design documents and coordinate with engineers and field personnel to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

The role reports to a Supervising Engineer and sits on a substation design team supporting projects across the QISG platform. Travel up to 25% may be required as project needs arise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable; this is required for the Design Engineer 4 band.
• Curiosity for and willingness to learn about substation components; previous design or construction experience is desirable.
• No experience required in the electric utility industry for entry level positions; more experience could lead to higher band.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts, grounding, protection, and control systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Produce design drawings, calculations, and BOMs for planning, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker, and grounding analyses.
• Ensure adherence to NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and provide recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain project documentation and support calculations.
• Flag potential project issues and propose solutions to stakeholders.
• Travel as required up to 10–25% of the time.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
