Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Substation Engineer II - Physical to join our electric substation design team in Texas. The role focuses on engineering and design for projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV, applying NESC, NEC, and IEEE standards with growing independence.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop layouts, perform analyses, assist in procurement, and support field coordination. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 2–5 years of relevant substation or power engineering experience.
• Ability to apply engineering principles with limited supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with quality and reliability.
• Strong communication and coordination with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support substation physical design projects with senior guidance, contributing to scope, schedule, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated substation design packages.
• Prepare design deliverables including layouts, plan/elevation views, and cable routing.
• Apply engineering principles to field data, perform analyses, and develop practical design solutions.
• Support studies such as grounding design and lightning protection to ensure safe operation.
• Develop equipment specifications and Bills of Material for major substation equipment.
• Ensure compliance with codes and client requirements (NESC, NEC, IEEE, ASCE).
• Coordinate with protection, civil, structural, transmission, and other teams; communicate with clients.
