Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group seeks a Design Engineer for substations to design components, develop protection and control schematics, and prepare drawings and BOMs for planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.

Requires ABET-accredited engineering degree and FE exam is desirable; entry-level opportunities available with potential for higher levels with experience. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
• FE exam desirable; required for the Design Engineer 4 band.
• No electric-utility industry experience required for entry level; more experience in detailed design could lead to higher level.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, raceways, and AC/DC power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Create design drawings, calculations, and BOMs for planning, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Perform engineering calculations (voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker, grounding).
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and provide recommendations to address inaccuracies or omissions.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to craft solutions and modifications.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Raise project-related issues and solutions with stakeholders.
• Travel up to 25% as required by projects.
