Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group seeks a Project Engineer – Substation to lead high-voltage substation design and engineering efforts. You will oversee a design team, support EPC proposals, and ensure compliance with NEC/NESC/IEEE standards across projects.

The role requires a PE license, ABET-accredited engineering degree, and at least 5 years in the electric utility sector. Travel to project sites may be required, and you will collaborate with engineers, designers, and drafters on the

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• P.E. license is required.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in electric utility industry performing detailed engineering for high voltage substation projects.
• Strong technical expertise across structural, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and other standards.
• Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee projects from inception to completion, including planning, design, construction support, and closeout.
• Review engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications for electrical substations.
• Ensure projects are on budget and schedule with cost-effective solutions.
• Review projects to verify compliance with standards and environmental/safety requirements.
• Oversee quality control procedures for workmanship and materials.
• Prepare and maintain project status reports and engineering documentation.
• Design substation components: yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, raceways, and power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and panel layouts.
• Develop design drawings, calculations, and bills of materials.
• Conduct engineering calculations: voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker, grounding.
• Ensure team applies NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Perform quality reviews and provide recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineering/project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain project documentation and calculations.
• Flag potential project-related problems to stakeholders.
• Travel out of town for short periods as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
