Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) is seeking a Design Engineer - Substation to perform substation design assignments, including layout, protection & control systems, while ensuring safety and construction standards. You will work with engineers and drafters across QISG projects, advancing high‑voltage substation designs.

The role advances through bands with experience and mastery. Travel up to 10–25% may be required, and strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable; required for higher band.
• Curiosity about substation components; basic knowledge is a plus; design/construction experience is desirable.
• No experience required for entry level; more experience may lead to higher band.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and email software; good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts, grounding and protection systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
• Produce design drawings, calculations and bills of material for planning and operations.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, grounding and flicker analysis.
• Ensure adherence to NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and provide corrective recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and calculations.
