Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group is seeking a Design Engineer - Substation to handle physical layout, protection and control systems, and related design tasks. You will work with engineers and drafters across multiple projects within the QISG platform, reporting to a Supervising Engineer.

There are four bands, with progression as skills grow. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and strong collaboration, with travel of up to 25% for project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• FE exam passing is desirable; required for Design Engineer 4 band.
• Willingness to learn substation components and gain experience.
• No prior electric utility experience required for entry level; more for higher bands.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts and grounding.
• Develop protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Prepare design drawings, calculations, and bills of material.
• Perform engineering calculations like voltage drop and grounding analysis.
• Ensure adherence to NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and collaborate with project teams.
• Maintain project documentation and engineering calculations.
• Travel up to 25% as required by projects.
