Job summary

Qualus University’s 2027 Engineering Boot Camp offers a full-time Substation Design Engineer role with a structured training path in the power industry. You will receive classroom instruction from experienced engineers, participate in site visits, and gain hands-on substation safety and equipment training while preparing for the FE exam.

You’ll work with Protection & Control teams to design substations, develop layouts, grounding plans, and AC/DC power systems, and produce design packages using

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited school.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus.
• Experience or education related to medium to high voltage electricity.
• Ability to work independently with high attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to discuss technical recommendations with customers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers and others to ensure design concurrence.
• Design substations including general arrangements, equipment layout, cable trenching and grounding.
• Perform calculations such as AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and cost estimates.
• Support project teams to meet quality, schedule, and management goals.
• Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to substations and protection schematics.
