Job summary

Qualus invites you to power your future as a Substation Design Engineer through the Qualus University's 2027 Engineering Boot Camp. This full-time Engineer I role combines classroom instruction, site visits, and hands-on substation training, plus FE exam prep to build a solid foundation in the power industry.

Participants will explore tracks in Protection & Controls, Power System Studies, Substation Engineering, or Relay Settings, with a path to grow into technical leadership.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree with a focus on power systems.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (a plus).
• Educational experience related to medium to high voltage electricity (preferred).
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
• Design substations including general arrangements, equipment and electrical layout, elevation views, cable trench, grounding, conduit drawings, and power systems.
• Perform calculations such as AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity.
• Prepare equipment and material specifications for procurement and develop design scope and cost estimates.
• Support project teams to meet quality and schedule goals.
• Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to substation design and protection schematics.
