Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer as part of the 2027 Engineering Boot Camp, a full-time Engineer I role with structured training to accelerate growth in the power industry. You’ll design and develop utility substation protection and control packages, work with relay settings and CAD drawings, and participate in site visits and safety training while preparing for the FE exam.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on power systems.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (a plus).
• Educational experience related to working with medium to high voltage electricity (preferred).
• Ability to work independently with high attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to discuss technical recommendations with customers.
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
• Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communication systems, including diagrams and bill of materials.
• Work on project teams supporting quality and project management goals.
• Meet all project deadlines and support processes to meet deadlines.
• Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to substation design and protection schematics.
• Demonstrate substation awareness and safety consciousness.
• Learn and apply test procedures for substation equipment.
• Develop drawings and assist in the preparation of design packages using CAD/drafting skills.
• Follow established design and CAD drafting standards ensuring quality and completeness.
• Identify process improvement ideas and communicate them through management channels.
