Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, offers a Columbia Design & Engineering Summer Internship to qualified students. You will work on the Navy's Columbia program, collaborating across systems engineering, planning, contracts, and purchasing to support design and construction activities for submarines.

Interns will be mentored by senior engineers, gain hands-on experience, and develop skills in project management and lifecycle engineering while contributing to real program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• US citizenship is required.
• Must pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university.
• At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
• Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.
• Selected candidates will be responsible for housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering Management, Naval Architecture or any Engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nuclear Engineering)

Responsibilities

• Support program management tasks for the Columbia Design & Engineering internship.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, planning, contracts, and purchasing teams.
• Assist in design, planning, and product lifecycle efforts.
• Develop leadership and teamwork skills under senior mentorship.
