Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat offers an SSN Electrical Engineering and Design Summer Internship in Groton, CT. Interns will work with senior engineers on submarine design and development for Virginia and Columbia classes, gaining hands-on experience with electrical systems, software, and cybersecurity concepts.

The program runs at least eight weeks during Summer 2027, with on-site assignments at multiple locations.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
• Must be available to work 40 hours per week for eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
• Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Network Administration, Security, Cybersecurity, Biomedical Engineering and Energy Systems Engineering.
• Selected candidates will be responsible for housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
• Minimum freshman year completed prior to the start of the internship.

Responsibilities

• Effective written and verbal communication during team collaborations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn new skills and apply them.
• Support across functional disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Forecast and schedule work to optimize resources.
• Support testing and ship integration of electrical and electronic systems.
• Assist with cybersecurity requirements for shipboard systems.
• Engage with suppliers to understand requirements and specifications.
