Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat invites students to join the COLUMBIA Class Mechanical, Structures, and Systems Engineering Summer Internship in Groton, CT. The program offers exposure to hull design, fluid and mechanical systems, and cross‑functional collaboration on submarine programs.

Interns will perform calculations, assist design and material analyses, and support ship checks while gaining hands‑on experience with senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• US citizenship is required.
• Must pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university and have completed freshman year.
• Available to work 40 hours per week for 8 consecutive weeks May 2027 to Sep 2027.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations.
• Develop and review designs for the COLUMBIA class submarine.
• Conduct material evaluation and selection studies.
• Analyze arrangement studies and resolve design issues.
• Assist in vendor issue resolution and ship checks.
• Document as-built conditions in the shipyard.
