Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is offering Engineering, Propulsion Plant and Ship Systems Summer Internships. Interns contribute to both design-focused and waterfront engineering activities, supporting construction, troubleshooting, and fleet readiness during the Columbia-class submarine program.

Interns will perform calculations, verify design requirements, and engage with Design teams, Construction Trades, and Navy representatives to implement solutions.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time at a college or university.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Medically approved background check and drug screen.
• Pursuing a BS/MS in an engineering field.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations on propulsion-related fluid systems, structures, and shielding.
• Ensure designs meet system requirements and specifications.
• Collaborate with Design, Construction Trades, and Navy representatives on new designs or issues.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams to solve propulsion or ship-system problems.
• Document and communicate technical responses to non-conformances and changes.
