East Texas A&M University in Commerce, TX seeks a Federal Work-Study Student Worker as an Event Services Assistant to help prepare spaces for events, support AV equipment, and coordinate with the Events Team.

You will gain hands-on experience in event production, customer service, and teamwork while supporting events for students, faculty, staff, and campus guests. The role offers flexible hours and on-campus work.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, flip, reset, and tear down event spaces with tables, chairs, and equipment.

  • Review event schedules and room diagrams using EMS and 7PointOps.
  • Complete shift reports and address client requests and issues.
  • Provide welcoming, professional assistance to clients, students, staff, and visitors.
  • Communicate with Events Team and supervisors during shifts.
  • Adapt to changing event needs and escalate as needed.

RSC - EVENT SERVICES ASSISTANT

THE ROLE

As an Event Services Assistant, you'll work behind the scenes—and sometimes front and center—to help create successful events throughout the Rayburn Student Center. You'll gain hands-on experience in event production, customer service, AV technology, teamwork, and problem-solving while supporting events for students, faculty, staff, and campus guests.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Build the Space - Set up, flip, reset, and tear down event spaces using tables, chairs, staging, signage, and equipment.
  • Support the Tech - Assist with microphones, projectors, displays, computers, and basic AV equipment.
  • Know the Plan - Review event schedules, room diagrams, assignments, and instructions using EMS and 7PointOps.
  • Document the Shift - Complete shift reports, address changes, client requests, AV or equipment issues, and incidents.
  • Serve the Guest - Provide welcoming, professional assistance to clients, students, employees, and campus visitors.
  • Stay Connected - Communicate with Events Team, AV Tech, Building Ops, and Shift Supervisor throughout your shift.
  • Solve & Adapt - Respond to changing event needs and quickly communicate concerns requiring additional assistance.

Student worker positions are part-time roles available throughout the university in a variety of departments and offices. These roles help students gain hands-on experience in a professional setting.

May work up to 19 hours per week while classes are in session, may work full-time during breaks and summer if enrolled for the upcoming fall.

Must not work during scheduled class times.

Open to all actively enrolled students regardless of financial aid status. Students do not need to be enrolled during summer if they plan to return in the fall.

Work-study positions are need-based jobs funded through federal or state financial aid programs and allow students to earn money to help pay for educational expenses. Must be awarded federal or state work-study through Financial Aid.

May work up to 19 hours per week during the semester, may work full-time during breaks and summer if returning in the fall. Must not work during scheduled class times. Positions are limited to the amount awarded and must follow program guidelines.

Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education. To qualify, students must:

  • Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non-degree)
  • Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship
  • Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency
  • Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training
  • Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment
  • May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support
