Job summary

Texas A&M University Campus Recreation is seeking a Federal Work Study or Student Worker for a Marketing Assistant role in Commerce, TX. Qualifications

  • Understand basic principles of journalism, public relations, advertising, and/or marketing.

  • Use Lightroom or Premiere Pro to create projects.
  • Reply to comments and messages following social media guidelines.
  • Update website, calendar content, department social media and bulletin boards.
  • Meet deadlines to ensure proper event advertising.
  • Collaborate with marketing program colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively across marketing activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description Summary of Responsibilities

This position is employed to distribute any form of marketing/advertising needed for the department’s events/programs/building notices/etc. It is responsible for general marketing and communication projects, in addition to a specialization in one of the following areas: copywriting & social media, design, photography/video editing, and web content management.

Provide: Resume Work Study Permit if applicable

Primary Duties
  • Print, cut, laminate, distribute/deliver posters and signage for departmental needs as directed.
  • Utilize best practices, trends and popularities within the social media realm – design, functionality, and users.
  • Promote Campus Recreation at informational tables, events, and gatherings.
  • Assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies and initiatives for Campus Recreation programs, facilities services, and business operations.
  • Work with Canva, InDesign, and Illustrator to design graphics for social media posts and campaign materials.
  • Utilize Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or other platforms to create projects.
  • Reply to comments, posts, messages, etc., following social media guidelines.
  • Assist in updating website, University calendar content, department social media, facility information screens and bulletin boards, and The Roar radio station.
  • Meet project deadlines so that events are properly advertised.
  • Collaborate with the others in the marketing program.
  • Utilize effective writing and communication skills throughout various marketing strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Office environment.

Sitting at a desk or table for majority of shift.

Standing/tabling at events for 1-2 hours.

Standing/walking around to capture events for 1-3 hours.

Working early mornings, nights, and weekend hours as needed for events.

Department Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service by welcoming and assisting Campus Recreation participants, answering questions accurately and professionally, addressing concerns in a courteous manner, and creating a positive, engaging environment for all patrons and participants.
  • Market Campus Recreation and area events.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing an environment where people feel welcomed, valued, supported, and respected as they work to pursue their academic and professional goals.
  • Attend all department and area trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Keep up to date on all TrainTraq assignments.
  • Maintain a standard of conduct while participating in Campus Rec activities or facilities, serving as a role model for other patrons by adhering to all safety, behavior, and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with department events and programming as needed.
  • Work early morning, night and weekend hours as needed.
Minimum Qualifications for Considerations
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of various social media accounts, tools, trends, and platforms.
  • Portfolio or work samples showcasing marketing related projects.
Desired Qualifications

Student Employment Details
  • May work up to 19 hours per week while classes are in session.
  • May work full-time during breaks and summer if enrolled for the upcoming fall.
  • Must not work during scheduled class times.
  • Open to all actively enrolled students regardless of financial aid status.
  • Students do not need to be enrolled during summer if they plan to return in the fall.
  • Work-study positions are need‑based jobs funded through federal or state financial aid programs and allow students to earn money to help pay for educational expenses.
  • Must be awarded federal or state work‑study through Financial Aid.
  • May work up to 19 hours per week during the semester.
  • May work full-time during breaks and summer if returning in the fall.
  • Must not work during scheduled class times.
  • Positions are limited to the amount awarded and must follow program guidelines.
Graduate Assistantship Details
  • Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education.
  • To qualify, students must:
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non‑degree)
  • Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship
  • Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency
  • Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training
  • Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment
  • May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support
