Responsibilities
Orientation Programs
- Assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of New Student Orientation programs.
- Support the recruitment, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders and student staff.
- Assist with orientation check-in, registration processes, presentations, and event logistics.
- Collaborate with campus departments and academic colleges to ensure a successful orientation experience for incoming students and families.
- Evaluate participant feedback and recommend improvements for future orientation programs.
- Assist in developing communication and marketing materials for orientation programs.
Family Programs and Family Weekend
- Assist with the planning, promotion, implementation, and assessment of Family Weekend events and activities.
- Collaborate with campus partners, departments, and community stakeholders to coordinate Family Weekend programming.
- Support communication initiatives that connect family members to university resources and events.
- Assist with event registration, guest services, and on-site event management during Family Weekend.
- Help develop programming that supports family engagement and student success.
Student Transition and Engagement Initiatives
- Attend and assist with weekly departmental meetings, events, retreats, and training opportunities.
- Support programs and initiatives that enhance the transition experience for new students.
- Assist with outreach efforts to prospective, incoming, and current students and their families.
- Develop and maintain program databases, records, and communication platforms.
- Collaborate with Student Affairs departments to develop innovative educational and engagement programs.
- Assist with marketing efforts, including social media, promotional materials, and event communications.
- Share responsibility for risk management concerns and preparation by working with university partners in advance of events.
- Assist with budget management, purchasing, and event expenditures.
- Represent New Student and Family Programs on university committees when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Develop competencies in assessment and evaluation, budgeting, strategic planning, event planning, student development, conflict resolution, and policy implementation.
- Gain experience in orientation programming, family engagement initiatives, and transition support services.
Compensation
- GA pay $13.33 per hour at 20 hours per week.
- Compensation includes a biweekly stipend.
- Tuition/fees assistance for up to 18 credit hours each year.
This position is a 9‑month, 20‑hour‑per‑week position that will involve some evening and weekend hours, particularly during Orientation programs, Family Weekend, and other major university events.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Only full‑time graduate students at East Texas A&M University are eligible for this position.
- If you plan to enroll in a graduate program at East Texas A&M University by Fall 2025, you may be considered for this position.
- All positions are security‑sensitive.

- To qualify, students must: Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non‑degree) – Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA – Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship – Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles – Non‑native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency – Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training – Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment – May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support.
