Job summary

Moraine Valley Community College is seeking a Clerical Student Employee/Peer Mentor (Student Success) to support dual credit students both in-person and virtually. The role emphasizes mentoring, onboarding, and helping students navigate college systems including the student portal and MVConnect.

The position requires strong communication, organization, and confidentiality. Hours include Monday–Thursday afternoons with optional Friday and occasional evenings; background check may be required.

• The student hired for this position must communicate clearly (verbal and written).
• The student must think critically to solve problems.
• The student must work well in a team.
• Must have current technology skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email).
• Must be dependable with good time management and the ability to work independently.
• Demonstrates openness and respect for diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and group mentoring to dual credit students (in-person and virtual).
• Assist students with onboarding steps (registration, placement testing, and campus systems).
• Share strategies for time management and study skills.
• Be a relatable resource to help students feel belonging in college.
• Support outreach at local high schools and events.
• Assist with orientations and student engagement activities.
• Help connect students with campus resources and support services.
• Track student participation and engagement with staff.
• Assist with data entry related to attendance, surveys, and mentoring logs.
• Distribute outreach materials and program guides.
