Job summary

City Year in the United States is seeking an entry-level, paid full-time Student Success Coach and Mentor to support students across grades in urban schools. You’ll work with teachers on literacy, math, attendance and positive behaviors, planning and monitoring progress in a collaborative classroom setting.

City Year AmeriCorps members receive training, stipends and benefits while helping students achieve academic success and prepare for the next steps in life, with pathways to further education

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Authorization to work in the U.S. is not sufficient. Those with DACA status unfortunately are not eligible at this time)
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program*
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (specific start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied learning activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through structured activities and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming
• Create, support and/or co-lead events recognizing student growth and achievements in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
