Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps is hiring an entry-level, paid, full-time Student Success Coach and Mentor. You will coach and mentor students, supporting academic progress, attendance, and positive behaviors while collaborating with teachers and staff.

You’ll receive initial training and work with teachers to foster literacy, math skills, and classroom engagement across school settings, including after-school activities and family programs.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students to earn academic success.
• Improve attendance and develop positive behaviors at school.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress; work with teachers on in-class support.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support; develop literacy and math skills.
• Create and implement behavior management systems and foster interpersonal growth.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support whole-school initiatives to increase student and family engagement.
• Assist with extended day and virtual programming; support enrichment and clubs.
• Participate in training and work with partner teachers and staff throughout the year.
