Job summary

City Year is seeking an entry-level City Year AmeriCorps Member to coach and mentor students across elementary, middle, and high school settings. You will help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.

Training will prepare you to support teachers and run small-group activities. You will plan and monitor student progress, collaborate with teachers, and participate in data reviews using City Year’s data system.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (authorization to work in the U.S. is required).
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily activities and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school.
