Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry-level mentors focused on coaching and supporting students in literacy, math, attendance, and behavior. You will plan progress, work with teachers, and help create positive classroom environments across elementary to high school levels.

We provide initial training and ongoing collaboration with partner teachers and school staff. The program includes benefits related to City Year and AmeriCorps, with start dates in mid-summer 2025.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily activities and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with the teacher.
