Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry‑level, full‑time coaches and mentors in schools, focusing on academic success, attendance, and positive student behavior. Members plan individualized progress, support classroom instruction, and partner with teachers to foster a supportive learning environment.

You will participate in 2–4 weeks of training, work with school staff, and gain practical experience in literacy, math, behavior management, and student engagement across grades.

Qualifications

• Citizenship or permanent residency in the U.S.
• Ages 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to each student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Foster interpersonal skills through daily routines, reflection and practice.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record and analyze student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with teachers.
