Job summary

City Year is seeking an entry-level AmeriCorps member to coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels. You will support academic success, improve attendance, and foster positive behaviors, working with teachers to implement in-class and after-school initiatives.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks) at year start, and the program includes a comprehensive set of educational benefits and stipends to support service in select City Year locations.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students
• Plan and monitor individual student progress
• Work with teachers on whole class instruction and in-class student support
• Create engaging, safe, and healthy classroom spaces in collaboration with teachers
• Support after-school and enrichment programs, clubs, and leadership development
• Gather and analyze student progress data to inform reviews and planning
