Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps Member is an entry‑level, full‑time role focused on coaching and mentoring students from elementary to high school. You will plan and monitor student progress, collaborate with teachers on class activities, and support academic and behavioral outcomes in a school setting.

The program provides initial training, ongoing school partner support, and a range of AmeriCorps benefits including stipends and health resources. Start planned for summer 2025 in participating locations.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to student level
• Create and implement behavior management for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space with teachers
