Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, helping them improve academics, attendance and behavior. You will plan and monitor individual progress, collaborate with teachers on in-class instruction, and provide targeted support inside and outside the classroom.

As part of City Year, you will receive 2–4 weeks of initial training, ongoing support from school staff, and access to a range of benefits and a bi-weekly living stipend to sustain your

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA not eligible)
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Foster interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection
• Collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with teachers
• Support extended day and virtual programs before, during and after school
• Lead events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
