Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. This entry-level, paid, full-time role includes training and collaboration with teachers to support classroom learning, small-group instruction, and school-wide initiatives.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, be 17–25 by July 1, 2025, have a GED or HS diploma (or some college/degree), and be able

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (location varies)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to promote academic success and attendance
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers on instruction
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Coordinate and participate in school-wide initiatives and after-school programs
• Collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with teachers
• Support and co-lead events recognizing student growth and achievement
